TOO FRIENDLY is owned & run by Is, from her studio at River Studios in West Melbourne. With a background in industrial design, Too Friendly was born to showcase the nature of clay through texture, form and pattern work. Inspired by nostalgia, natural environments, and human interaction, to design and handmake functional pieces for the home that people can attach their own memories to.

Specialising in coloured porcelain clay, all pieces are locally made with the slip casting process; sketching, digital modeling, 3D printing, plaster mold, and clay casting. The production process takes roughly 3 months, and each individual piece takes over an hour to cast, using a unique technique to hand paint the surface design and create textures with different coloured clays, and are glazed with only a clear gloss. Creating waterproof, dishwasher and microwave safe functional art pieces.

The Human Behind Too Friendly

Is (Isabelle)

I, the silly (yet very professional) human depicted in the accompanying image, discovered the slip casting process while studying Industrial design, and have been practising for roughly 4 years now.

Starting my practice with the mass production of small objects, experimenting with glaze techniques and have now developed into experimenting with clay surface textures, the slip casting process, using coloured clay to create imagery.

I love working on projects that push the boundaries of slip casting and challenge my skills to translate any design into the ceramic medium.
